  • Everything must be coordinated within a team of six designers

CLIENT

Leading payroll and HR services provider in Europe

TEAM

Middle designer (me) in a team of 6 designers and art director

MY ROLE

Researching, prototyping, UX and UI designing, interaction and coordination with other designers. I was responsible for the 'To do', 'Event approval', 'Time report approval' sections design for mobile and tablets.

I was responsible for creating a logical and user-friendly process for handling day-to-day work tasks such as time tracking and events or expanses approval for over 400 people.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM

Before Atro began mobile product they already had a desktop application for their clients, but it looked difficult and old-fashioned. Management wanted the new product be more convenient and modern, so they can attract new customers and make more profit.

My research encompassed:

  • Understanding the user goals and needs
  • Uncovering pain points with the existing user journey
  • Determining the success of the tasks measured

DEVELOPING THE DESIGN

I worked towards addressing these pains by coming up with potential solutions:

  • Reducing the number of steps to minimise time to completion
  • Establishing clearer visual form hierarchy by grouping related fields

I constantly communicated within the team and I worked very closely with the Front End team to spec out any missing interactions that were not covered in the high fidelity mockups. Every week I prepared a presentation to the Atro's art director about the work I had done.

REFLECTION

Working in an early-stage mobile application was an extremely steep learning curve. It was an eye-opening experience that taught me a lot about being lean and knowing when and where to focus your energy and efforts. Our team work really hard and we managed to deliver a quality and user-friendly product to Atro and their clients.

Next project

Mobile app for document management for the US market

Smart Storage

As the first in‑house designer, I established a structured design process, replacing ad‑hoc practices. Delivered a platform rebrand, improved overall UX based on research and metrics, and introduced new features that received highly positive feedback from clients.
